DP here. I love painting but my spouse is nit picky. I’m pretty good but I can’t do it perfectly like the professionals and it’s sheer misery trying to get it perfect with someone standing over you constantly criticizing.

Whoa. Your quote is way overpriced then OP.

Bruce solid oak 3 1/4" goes for around $4.50-$5.99/SF. So for 500 SF, if you are generous and at $5.99/SF, it is about $3175 material only. Even if he charges $6/SF for labor, shoe molding HW cost would be $6175. Lets just say $6500. Add $6000 (I'm being generous here) you're looking at $12,500.
