if you have an average size 8yo girl... what size clothes is she wearing?

Agree this seems weird and a second opinion seems like a good idea. My almost 9 year old is mostly wearing size 10 and she’s very proportional. But she has had some serious growth spurts in the past year. It seems normal

Op, your DD sounds completely normal and I think you absolutely need to leave that pediatrician!

My 8.5yo is in the 55th percentile for height. She’s very long waisted so her pants are mostly still size 8, but her shirts are half 8s and half 10s. She wears a size 2 shoe in sneakers but still fits into her size 1 boots.

You need a new ped. It is really normal for a kid to size up. She doesn’t sound abnormal at all. Her feet seem kind of big but that just means she will grow taller?

Mine is very tall but also very skinny so we struggle. Summer is fine bc she can wear a 5/6 in shorts but winter is hard bc she needs a 10 for length and they don't stay up. I've taken to having my Mom pull in the waist of size 8 leggings. They're still short but then the waist fits better.

As for concern - if she grew 2+ inches in 3 months that would be a lot. But still not crazy. Maybe that's all she'll grow this year and it's about to slow down.

My daughter wore size 8 last year at age 8.

You have an almost 9yo. If I remember correctly, there is no size 9. It usually goes 6-7, 7-8, 9-10. I have a daughter and 2 boys. When my boys were ages 8-11, it was very difficult to shop for them because they were so skinny. My current 12yo is too tall for kid clothes but can’t fit adult men’s clothing.

My daughter usually goes to the next size when she is half a year older so your daughter wearing 10 at almost 9 sounds right since there isn’t much size 9 clothing. Girls clothing also has a lot of leggings so tight and hard to find the right fit. My 7yo has either short pants that fit at the waist or pants that are too big at waist.

+1 to finding a new pediatrician. Your daughter sounds completely within the range of normal. For perspective, my 50th percentile 8yo is growing out of size 8s. Size 8-10 is ideal but since many clothing brands don't make that, she's sizing up to size 10, especially in anything where she wants more room, like pajamas. Her 10yo sister is 10th percentile for height and can still fit size 8 in most things, although like a PP said, needs size 7 for waist and size 10/12 for length. Both wear size 2 shoes (I'm shoe size 5.5 like PP). Get a new pediatrician! If you tell us where you're located, maybe we can suggest one.

I have two dd, one in the 5th percentile and she wore size 8 when she eight, consistently fit into her her age group clothes. My other dd is in the 90th percentile mad at age 8 wore a size 12.

She started hormone blockers at 8 because of signs of puberty, nothing to do with her height.

My 8 year old wears size 7 but she's pretty small. Most of her friends wear larger - 10-12.

My daughter always was in the bottom 5th percentile, she was born 3 weeks early at only a little over 4 lbs. She was healthy, but always so tiny. She is 8 now and wears shoe size 12 or 13, clothes sizes 6 or 7.

It really depends on the kid, my 10 year old, for example is wearing adult size XS because she's very thin and very tall.

Doesn’t seem out of the ordinary to me. I think my DD is above average height and average weight. She’s 8.5 and still wears size 8. Shoes are 2.5.

My almost 10 year old wear womens medium and 8.5 women's shoe. Totally normal.

My 8.5 year old can squeeze into size 8, but 10/12 gives her a little growing room. She just had a growth spurt and is in size 3-3.5 shoes now.

I think that your daughter sounds normal.
