if you have an average size 8yo girl... what size clothes is she wearing?

Long story short, pediatrician noted she had a very rapid growth spurt since turning 8 (three months ago ... we just returned for vaccines and they took measurements again) but said it may still be normal but we could see an endocrinologist about a more detailed evaluation of whether we would want hormone blockers...
She's always been average in the growth stats 50 percentile etc. And i know ped offices measurements can be pretty inaccurate. But i'm noticing she's quickly growing out of all her size 8 clothes from Carters, Gap etc. Even the Zara 9 pants are getting a tad short. Are your average size 8yos generally wearing 10? Her shoe size is 3.

Are you seeing physical development? Breast buds, pubic hair?
Why is the pediatrician talking about hormone blockers? Maybe she just had a growth spurt.
My 8 year old is growing 2/2.5 inches per year and wears a size 8. She is always around 40th-50th percentile. I am not tall and I think she took after me.

Some 8s and some 10s. And my kid isn't huge. She has smaller feet. But I wear a 5.5, so that's not surprising.

I am really surprised that a pediatrician would be concerned about an 8 year old growing out of size 8 clothing or a kid who's always stayed on the same growth curve.

What height percentile is she on the growth chart now? I agree that 8 is too late for growth blockers, and unless you’re seeing other puberty signs, it’s probably just a growth spurt. My very tall almost 8 year old is mostly a size 10 (with a few 8s that still fit) and size 3 shoe, but has always been at the top of the charts. As she’s gotten older, her growth tends to plateau and then jump instead of being more steady. You could have just caught her right before and right after a growth spurt so it looks like her growth rate is increasing.

No breast buds but yes on very emotional, mood swings.
I don't know, I'm wondering whether to switch peds, he is very ambivalent and often says this could be normal or you could ask a specialist. This happened with a tonsils concern in the past and other issues.

The mood swings are very normal, and don't mean puberty is around the corner. https://www.parents.com/kids/development/adrenarche-and-puberty-everything-you-need-to-know/

8 yo - average looking, a bit on the taller side. She wears mostly size 10. Shirts/dresses are a bit big, leggings fit fine. Cat and Jack brand for the most part. H and M fit better for shirts as they run smaller. Size 5 shoes - sorry kid, you got your mom's sasquatch feet.

My daughter is a tall and thin 8.5 year old. She wears the size 12 slim jeans from Target. Dresses and tshirts and less structured clothes can be a 10. She’s currently wearing a 9/10 coat from Boden.

This winter is when I’m transitioning to buying her more size 12 clothes but it’s hard because the waists on anything long enough basically fall off. She needs a size 7 waist with size 12 length which pretty much doesn’t exist. :-/

My 8 year old girl is in size 10/12 clothes, has baby buds and size 4 shoes. The doctor never mentioned anything remotely abnormal about this.

Ours is tall and carrying a bit extra. 12/14. Most things are roomy - she prefers high waisted leggings for sensory comfort. Shirts can be 10-14, though she still fits in smaller tops as well. I still don’t understand the sizing tbh.

I feel like your daughter is wearing the standard sizes I would expect for a kid in the 50th percentile for size. What is the doctor concerned about?

For perspective, my 8 YO has been around 20% her whole life.

Wearing size 6 (small) in girls Cat & Jack clothing
Size 13 shoes

You could find a tailor to stitch up some of the pants. It is a pretty easy fix on leggings. (Not jeans)

100% you need a new ped. Not to discount what he said, but it’s a weird take. First, I work get a female ped for your DD. She’s quickly approaching the age where she’s not going to be comfortable with a male doctor. Second, look at growth curves and trajectory rather than this one visit. My kids can be all over the place between visits, but my ped always reminds me that their growth is reasonably steady (over years) and that growth spurts and stalls are really, really common at this age.
