Specialized school for children with profound disabilities

Anonymous
I personally know the Principal of Longview - my child does not go there but has done classes/programs with her in the past before her time at Longview. I hear great things about the dedication of the staff (I know a couple of staff too from my son's previous school).

I would look into Longview!

Avoid St. Coletta at all costs.

i had always heard that MCPS was good for this population, in part, because there's little expectation of learning.

Specifically looking for info regarding quality of staff, overall environment, etc

Do you live in DC? Have you confirmed they have space in the appropriate age group? It may not even be worth considering.

Not pp but it's really not your business whether they have space on the age group. People are allowed to do research.

Also note - extreme space limitations for full support programs, as many have been complaining of in other threads

That was an oddly harsh reaction - it's a reasonable suggestion to save OP time if there's no chance there kid would get in there.

OP is your child blind? Not sure if you said that or just looking for schools w/ kids who might be blind.

But if your child is blind w/ multiple disabilities, check out MD School for the Blind

I don't have a child who has attended, but iBrain just opened a location in DC. They focus on educating children with brain injuries/brain-based disorders.

Spots open up. I'm pp. Have researched these schools. It's worth knowing all the programs. Your never know where you'll end up

You clearly not the caretaker of a severely disabled child. The goal of these schools is maybe not your definition of “learning” but it is simply meeting these children where they are at and giving them the best chance at a fulfilling and happy life given unfortunate or u lucky circumstances. Despite this many of these children with severe impairments experience more daily joy than the average depressed and stressed American. There is more than one way to be human.

OP. WHAT is the diagnosis?? There are many SN schools in the DCUM area but they each have mission statements and try to stay within the mission statement. So ignore everything above and tell us the diagnosis/issues and then we can tell you which school is best for what.

Run run far away from iBrain! A bunch of scammers. Just google “iBrain lawsuits” and you’ll find everything you need to know. No experienced therapist stays there more than 6months.
