Wow, look at this.

A crime is committed. The councilmember brings attention to it. The police investigate and someone is arrested.

If only we could get Frumin to care as much about violent crime as he apparently does about property crime.

This. He should be quite literally out walking the streets, calling things in, until all of this nuisance crime subsides. The sidewalk in front of City Ridge smells permanently of pot. Why is that? He could call it in. The flasher in the bank. He could call it in. Etc.

Let me know the last time he made multiple public comments, press releases or tweets about a violent crime in Ward 3.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that he’s purposely been avoiding publicly directly addressing and bringing attention to the crime issue in Ward 3. That is until this specific case of property crime.

I think the onus should be on Frumin to explain why this seems to be the only crime that has caught his attention and is a priority for him.

It’s near his neighborhood.

After some prodding, he did so re: the shooting outside The Saratoga. He also held a community meeting about the incident with MPD at UDC. In fairness.

If there is one consistent thing about Frumin, he is overly sensitive to businesses. It’s why the bike lanes are dead and also why he cares so much about property crime.

There was a fire in Burleith last week. Without evidence, this seems like enough of an outlier statistically to believe it is not random.

Wait, you think more than one fire in a city of over 700,000 people in a week is a statistical anomaly?

I’m who you were replying to. Yes, indeed, they were related. And now a suspect has been arrested.

That’s fair up to a point. We are in danger of losing more neighborhood businesses because of crime and disorder that are spiraling out of control

That’s so sad! I hope you didn’t lose anything irreplaceable.

Thank you! It is a sad time for our congregation.

It was a 72 year building, so I’m sure plenty of things were lost that are irreplaceable. And we still don’t know if the building itself is a complete loss or if can be rebuilt with the same charm that we all love, at least in part. But we count our blessings that it was unoccupied and that firefighters were not seriously injured when they got trapped.

Frumin should be outside every day moving from hotspot to hotspot and calling in nuisance crime on up. I'm sure District 2 takes his calls.

A generic 72 year old building was built in the 1950s is NOT historic in DC. Stop pretending like it is. Planning probably already had that specific building slated for upzoning. While arson is bad, folks should probably be happy if this accelerates redevelopment.

If he just stood outside the Van Ness or Cleveland Park metro stations for an hour he would see multiple crimes including 100% chance of open weed use and retail theft. High likelihood of carjacking or theft.

Frumin regularly holds what he calls his “Workday in the Ward.” Hopefully it’s not a Wokeday in the Ward.

The PP was talking about the LDS church on Western Ave. The Smart Growth “Density Bros” are really out of control when they are cheerleading for upzoning and mixed-use redevelopment of a burned church where a congregation worships!
