Look at AA.

What do you think is the underlying issue causing the drinking?

Trauma?
Depression?
Bipolar?

Any idea?

This. He can use a therapist for additional support and to help with maintenance once treatment is completed, but just doing 1x/week therapy for this issue is like putting a band-aid on a massive gaping wound.

In addition to therapy, he might consider a medication like naltrexone.

Good suggestions. I hope and pray that this person is not the father of your unborn child. Because this shitshow does not end and instead it becomes bigger and bigger shitshow impacting more and more innocent people over time.

You need Al Anon, OP, you need the reality check and support.

He may need inpatient to safely detox depending on his current consumption, DTs can kill you.

Do not give up your job or your support network. You can't save him but it's up to you to shield your kid.

-Adult child of an alcoholic dad, all sibs are some degree of damaged, ACoA can really help, Alateen before that
