Quality of WCAC high school soccer

From a High School Coach perspective, (I am not a high school coach, but I understand where they are coming from...I think.) they will play the players who come to the most practices and are the most loyal to the school program first. It is understandable that MLSnext or ECNL players would not be starters if they can only manager a few practices per week, when the starters come to all the team training events and are dedicated to the school. Those dedicated players should be rewarded for their hard work and commitment. Also, grades are a consideration for playing in High School. I can remember we had a great player in High School, but he rode the pine and wasn't allowed to play 1 quarter when low grades were a factor. He played Semi-pro for 3 years, never went to college, became a delivery driver and I don't know what happened to home after that. But I digress.

The DC State tournament is also unfair to some leagues. You have schools that can only take kids who live in specific boundaries or feeder schools in DC (DCPS, Charters, etc.) against teams like SJC that recruit from the entire DMV and even further out. Still fun for everyone involved but the deck is stacked against local public school teams.

Not at all. But if I certainly wouldn't call the small wcac conference with some HS of 100 students total the 'most competitive' in the area (in high school terms).

Fwiw, all HS soccer is pretty much sh*t which is why college coaches will point blank say they will not recruit from HS. They do not care about HS soccer.

I wouldn't pay for private school for soccer. Period. That's just stupid. I would pay for better academics, smaller class sizes, safety (if zoned to a dicey HS), etc. But, if I was happy with my in-zone public HS that's where my kids would go. I would NOT shop around for a high school based on soccer. Go find a good club team instead. Play for the high school for fun- period.

Yep. Our school literally has players from all over the DMV- top clubs. They should win everything easily every.single.year. They don't.

High school soccer can be a great experience for the most part if your school has a decent program. Good break for the girls from club travel.

This. I'm not sure what you are asking OP. But ^ this poster is correct. It's stupid to look at a school based on soccer. This isn't basketball or football--which ok--yeah--I get it. Colleges actually will look at HS play in those sports. Soccer is not a high school sport in the sense of recruitment.

Oh no, def not shopping arnd for schools just for soccer. My kids will go a WCAC school regardless of any activity and already play club. Just curious as to whether there is a benefit to playing in HS beyond the school spirit/camaraderie.

There isn't. It's for fun only. Choose the school on all other factors. Plus- there is no guarantee your kid is going to make the team, be happy on it, or play. A lot of kids give it up after a year or 2--especially if they are trying to balance a top level club team too.

Soccer is in the fall and starts in August, you walk into school the 1st day with friends.
