Since most camps are around rush hour, most parents select camps based on their location. I'm near McLean/North Arlington. Takes me 20-25 minutes to get to HP which is near the Expo. But, at 4-6pm it takes a good 45-60 minutes. If I take the express lanes it takes 35 minutes (plus $20).

With Capstone, 8 players is too many for the small space. Also, they spend the 1st 30 minutes on fitness without the ball. Coaches are young, some talk down to players and aren’t super motivational. Lot of negative reinforcement….i.e. don’t do x don’t do y don’t do z. My kid wasn’t to excited to attend or motivated by the coaches.

My son is doing HP, and we’ve been really impressed. It’s a 30-40 min drive each way, but the training is excellent and the level of players is high—my son is learning a lot just by being around some of these kids and watching them play.

HP Elite trains down to the lowest level player. They have very big "classes" and the drills are extremely repetitive. Not a lot of variety or footskills.

This is what my son said about the training. He was not wanting to go by the end of the session because it was the same thing each week - boring.

We haven’t had that experience. They’ve been dividing the kids up by skill level and have around 8-10 kids with a coach and lots of stopping to reassess and coach when a kid doesn’t get it. I’m not an HP employee—we’ve just found it to be a good supplement. The repetition is what helps drill in the movement and skill.

Repetition is how the brain learns new motor skills. They don’t become stamped in/automatic without it.

Capstone is great if you want your kid active with some practice during winter. Right in Falls Church so easy to get to even during rush hour. HP Elite is way up there off RT28 but in terms of training it is 10x better. 1.5 hours of nonstop drills. Even after 2-3 visits you'll notice development in your kid. It's very much more focused on repeating skills over and over so the learn and develop. Also, their turf is huge while Capstone is basically a store with turf carpet.

Not sure which course you took, but my kid has about 30-40 kids with four coaches. They break the group into four sections based on skill set and there are plenty of different drills. I stay there since it's a long drive so they change drills about every 8-10 minutes. I've seen everything from passing, shooting, tons of fakes, 1v1, 2v2, did I mention fakes? Also, the only way to develop is repetition. You don't master a fake in 10 reps. It's thousands.

Do GFR boys players (2011 or 2012) train at MV during the winter?
