Eliminate Hamas, dismantle settlements in the WB, Bring UN peacekeepers forces to Gaza. Create a State of Palestine in the WB with Gaza integrated into that once UN determines that the populace is ready for that.

Please elaborate. Are Jews allowed there? Are Palestinians there? Do you think terrorist's groups are just going to step back and allow that?

Why is it the only option? A one state democracy can't be a Jewish state because Palestinians will equal or outnumber them. A one state solution without full democracy is Apartheid. Therefore the two state solution is all that is left.

Neither Netanyahu nor Hamas believes in it. We were making progress with the Oslo Accords and its opponents ruined it. Right wingers assassinated Yitzak Rabin and then they deliberately weakened Arafat and Fatah. Netanyahu liked Hamas because nobody could force him to negotiate with Hamas.

+1

Also, most Israelis I know want a two-state solution. The problem is how to divide the land in a way that maintains Israeli security.

How do you propose to eliminate Hamas without harming innocent Palestinian people?

Also, if so many people favor a 2 state solution why is "From the river to the sea" becoming a cliche chant that everyone must have at their Pro-Palestinian protests. That is about wiping out Israel completely.

Well, that’s the problem. Discussing it here and talking about what we think people in Israel and the Palestinian Territories want is fine, but it appears to be the case that many Palestinians actually just want one Palestinian state. Even moderate Palestinians who don’t want Jewish Israelis to be killed have said that they hope Jews would just choose to leave. I know that there are some Israelis who want the same thing for themselves but I think they are a much smaller minority.

OP yet again. I keep posting with questions. Also, who do we think can help negotiate all this? Do we need to wait until Netanyahu is out of office? What leaders can help with the peace accords.

And the question still remains....how do you eliminate Hamas without harming anyone innocent?

How does this work geographically, since Gaza and the West Bank aren’t connected?

But I wonder, is that what moderate Palestinian people believe? Gaza is ruled by Hamas. If you have family there and you speak out even from America about Hamas, don't you jeopardize their lives? How can we know what Palestinian people believe when they are ruled by such a radical group?

If you don’t eliminate Hamas more innocent Palestinian people and Israeli people will be harmed. And since I am not a military person, I will leave the planning to someone knows how to do it (and no such person ever posts on DCUM)

2 states I guess because 1 state will essentially eliminate the most fundamental reason for Israel’s existence- to be a safe (as much as it can be) homeland for Jewish people. But for this to succeed hinges on Palestinians making their peace with Israel’s existence and focusing on making their new country a good place vs trying to annihilate Isreal. And yes hinges on isreal pulling back the settlers.

How did it work in 2005 when Palestinians agreed to it? Alaska and Hawaii are not connected either, Kaliningrad is not connected to Russia.

Like the way Rome is an independent city-state, while physically inside of Italy, but governed by the UN?

That’s true. I don’t think we know. I’ve seen a poll from before this war that showed that less than 50% of Palestinians (in and out of Gaza) wanted a two state solution but you may be right about fear, and then of course this current war may make Palestinians feel even less inclined towards peacefully living with their neighbor.

I’m not sure, but I think it is impractical when the state in between is considered an enemy state. I get that the point of this will be to improve relations between the states but realistically there will have to be borders and Palestinians will face difficulties leaving one part of the state and going to the other.

So he will go, and hopefully he will be replaced by someone more moderate. I don’t think it’s fair to suggest that Hamas and Likud are equivalent, but if they are both out of the picture then there might be some progress. I don’t know, though, because we have been here before and so far I don’t think there has been a leader on the Palestinian side who has ever accepted 2 states.

All of this. The conversation needs to be controlled by moderates who actually want peace. The extremists who mount attacks just at the moment breakthroughs in moderate conversation seem possible need to be eliminated so they can't continue to drive events.
