Green bean casserole should be banished to hell

I love green bean casserole. I love the too salty mushroom soup. I love the weird fried onions. I love the melted cheese. My one change to the recipe is to use fresh green beans, instead of canned, because the canned gets too mushy when you bake it.

It's every holiday meal and church potluck from my childhood in one hotdish.

What a shame that green bean casserole has caused you so much trauma.

Well said, thank you.

I personally don't like it. But then, I know plenty of people who love it, if only because it's tradition.

OP, you're pretty clueless if you don't realize that there are probably 50 foods you love or use often that other people would sneer at, whether it is jarred mayonnaise or your preferred pizza or pasta recipe. If you so much as use ketchup or canned tuna, or drink Diet Coke ever, you don't have a leg to stand on.

You are making me hungry for our family version - spinach instead of green beans!

It’s not for people who like green beans. I hate green beans so consider the casserole a definite improvement! I like other green vegetables but green beans just don’t do it for me.
Your calling it dog food is also kind of funny because raw plain green beans are often recommended for dogs who need to lose weight. So I view plain green beans as diet dog food!

I like it, canned ingredients and all.

As an English person I don’t really understand the allure/tradition behind it, I do like it the once a year I eat it though.

I love it. I'll have your share and you can have my turkey.

My dog begs to differ. All he's interested in is the turkey!

I like green beans myself, but only the so-called French, very thin, kind, and preferably in little bacon scarves

I realize I may never have had "green bean casserole". Just wanted to say I wasn't against the right kind of green beans...

No more marshmallows, limp green beans. We still did regular mashed potatoes because my kids love it.

What is this talk about cheese? I've eaten my share of various green bean casseroles over the years and not one included cheese. Tell me more please!
