What's up with Santa Clara University?

I think if you got the original two shots and then a booster, you’re fine. Everybody got COVID this fall anyway and was hacking all over the place. Incoming parents need to band together once admitted and declare, as a group, that they’re not enrolling their children unless the mandate is dispensed with.

The current requirement is either three shots or one of the latest shot (since students who hadn't had any yet can only access the one currently available). Any student who had less than three earlier doses would be required to get the latest shot. No actual exemptions (religious exemptions not allowed; medical exemptions denied; read the lawsuit if this topic is of interest https://ca.childrenshealthdefense.org/wp-content/uploads/SCU-FAC-6-24-2022-FINAL.pdf)

I'm amazed by the anti-vax stuff here.

You're nuts. Colleges can put in place their own public health policies.

BTW, did you realize that your buddy Trump gets every booster that comes along? Saying no to vaccines is something he pushes onto chumps like you.

It's not highly regarded in CA, it's considered middle-of-the-road.

Parent with kids in CA high schools now, looking at colleges.

Does it have something else going for it? For example a good co-op program or dedicated teachers or some unusual study model? Just trying to find a sensible reason to like it, aside from the fact that it's easy to get into and CA.

I disagree with this as well. Obviously it’s not in the same league as Berkeley, Stanford, UCLA. It’s most similar to USC, except smaller, undergraduate focused and Jesuit. 52% of students come from private schools. Diverse but it also has a bro culture which is rare in California.

I live in WA state. My kid is at a school with a huge group of parents who were born and raised here, went to Santa Clara, and came straight back. It’s where rich graduates from our private school with good but not awesome grades aspire to go. I think the school offers a lot of opportunities but most of the kids I know who go there are most comfortable in a little bubble and want to do something business-y.

Trump is old. A young healthy person doesn’t need it to stay out of the hospital.

Was a safety for my student last year. Not a STEM kid. My student was accepted RD with 7500/year merit. 3.9 UW and 4.3 W with high rigor in DCPS and with a 1490 SAT (near perfect verbal). Just weighing in to say they give merit but not much. My student is elsewhere.

I am in DC but a CA native and agree it is well regarded in CA, but below Stanford, Cal,! UCLA and USC. Great location for internships.

Haha. Nice job of excusing his hypocrisy!

I'm happy with a college having a rule that makes it less likely that your kid will infect my kid.

And for these colleges, they're doing their best to keep their faculty and staff teaching and working in person. With many of them older, maybe your kid can stop being a selfish jackass and help protect the profs and the ability to have in person classes.

Meh, I’m not the PP but my kid got rushed to a pediatric cardiologist with potential myocarditis after the last booster and has been told to not get another booster by multiple doctors, including a well-known pediatric cardiologist. I have to look for schools where there is no vaccine mandate.

I’m very pro-vaccine and am fully vaccinated myself but this is a real issue for some of us.

It has excellent job placement, and punches way above its weight for professional placement for its grads.

I’m in California and I disagree with the bolded entirely. You say you are a parent with kids in CA high schools now. Where, and how long have you been here?

For CS it’s extensively recruited from by SV companies.

You must not be in Silicon Valley. I am and am a lifelong Californian. It is very well-regarded here, which is why it has such good job placement.

It also isn’t remotely a party school. Weird comment.
