Good nursing home in Montgomery County?

I sorta want to live at Seneca and I’m only 60 . Very nice facility but like many of the newer ones, they’re still working on their footing. Lots of staff turnover…

You may want to check out either Kindley (assisted living) or Wilson (skilled care) at Asbury Village in Gaithersburg.

My mom had a good experience at the Hebrew Home when she was there for rehab in Fall 2022. It probably helped that I brought a bag of chocolate every week and that she spoke French, which many of the employees there also speak.

Good luck!

+1 on Hebrew Home. The staff in one part was excellent. In another part, on a second visit, the staff was not great. Keep an eye on that. There can be quite a difference in quality, depending on the wing.

They were terrible when I visited but the admissions woman for several years played games saying there were no openings via medicaid, which they accept, and when I'd call no medicaid they'd have beds. When I did a tour they just had residents staring at the walls. Very short staffed, but most places were.

I met a couple who were in independent living at Riderwood and loved it. Riderwood is a CCRC and so have memory care, as well as assisted living, which is what it sounds like you are looking for.

Piggybacking on to this post - does anyone know the wait times for assisted living at some of these facilities in MoCo? My elderly parent is slowly but certainly too much for my family to manage at home and we are moving toward assisted living. Never having gone through this before I am woefully unprepared for what to expect from both a cost perspective and a timeframe. Any suggestions would be welcome.

All nursing homes have limited Medicaid beds.

Call Owl Be There or A Place for Mom - they will match you with what you’re looking for (for free).

Most places don’t have wait times. Kensington Park in Montgomery County is one the few that does (6 months or so for assisted living, even longer for independent living). They are very expensive but have their act together as they've been around for a long time and aren’t owned by a large corporation or private equity fund. The newer, fancier places take a few years to find their footing and have high staff turnover rates.

Our relative is there since early 2020. It is a nightmare. Only slightly better than leaving our relative alone in a studio apartment.

It's too bad they've gone downhill. It used to be one of the best in the county.

The Landing in SS is closing. Many of their residents are going to Cadence in Olney.

When you say “nursing home”, do you mean assisted living?

I’m not the OP but I am looking for facilities with memory care.

Wow about it closing. It seem to be new and have decent reviews.

What about Sunrise of Silver Spring?

There is a new landing in Alexandria. It’s about $12,000 a month for assisted living, not even memory care.

I have my mom at Raphael House a non-profit in Rockville. The staff is very caring, attentive, and they have been there for years. Very low turnover. It costs about $8000 a month. It is only a bedroom w/ an attached bath but compared to other places I've seen this works well for us. Not a super fancy place but they have home cooked meals and activities. She has dementia but they appear to have a handle on it. I think as long as you are not a wanderer they can handle it. They have an on-site physicians so it saves me a lot of time.
