Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
What’s maddening is that this the way the CO — especially under Dr. McKnight’s leadership — gaslights people who bring formal complaints. |
Look, there are bad men in the world. Some of them will abuse their power, particularly over women and children, and particularly in a sexually aggressive way. I care that those men are appropriately punished, and that means we need systems in place to identify and remove them from positions of authority. McKnight was in charge of a system that should have investigated the many many allegations of wrongdoing against Biedleman. Instead, she oversaw a system that consistently ignored well-documented instances of sexual harassment, intentionally disregarded any complaints not filed on a specific form, and ignored complaints that came in via Lighthouse and SafeSchools Maryland - exactly the venues that victims were instructed to utilize. Not only that, but she personally promoted this sex pest and bully to one of the most senior administrative roles in the district. At the end of the day, Dr. McKnight either failed, or was failed by the very people she hired and supervised. Either way, it seems she was at least one "pay grade" above her level of competence. I don't really care whether she did it out of malice or incompetence. The point is that she had a shot at The Big Job and she did it poorly. Time to let someone else give it a go. |
I care about Beidleman but he wasn’t principal of the school in my area. I care more about the systemic failures that resulted in compromised investigations because we don’t know yet how often that happened and how many more Beidlemans are roaming in the supervisory ranks at MCPS. It never has been about Dr. McKnight for me. I became concerned that this school system protected predators around the time that the Vigna allegations became public and everything that has happened since has proven time and again that MCPS is broken. |
| There was a 50+ page thread on this just yesterday. Where did it go? |
You know, it's clear that you refuse to admit this- but most adults can recognize that one can be outraged by multiple things at the same time. I'm disgusted with Biedleman and I'm equally disgusted that a system (led by McKnight) that is supposed to protect its students and teachers, and ensure that a high level of integrity is maintained, went through hoops to protect and promote him. They lied and didn't give a sh*t about the teachers who were done wrong by him. That's gross. And the fact that you can't admit that says a lot about you. |
Not the ones posting here. Beidleman sexually harassed teachers working for him repeatedly, in the most egregious way, and despite YEARS of both formal and informal complaints, Central Office PROMOTED him. If that's not scandalous, I don't know what is. MCPS is master at sweeping assault and sex assault under the rug. Please remember the numerous sex assaults of students on students (multiple cases, particularly in high schools, and notoriously that brooming case in the Damascus locker rooms where the school tampered with witnesses, victims statements and evidence), and staff on students (that bus driver caught on camera assaulting a special needs student) |
Good to see that the thousands that MCPS is spending on the new crisis communications firm is being put to good use. Was "gaslight the public via social media and online message boards" a line item in the statement of work? |
LOL! I would't be surprised. |
And what's even more scandalous is these people completely ignoring Beadleman and trying to make this about McKNight. |
Honestly, only YOU are doing this. No one is ignoring Biedleman. Just because we mention McKnight, doesn't mean we're ignoring Biedleman. |

A good leader will say "the buck stops here." The coverup and several complaints happened on McKnight's watch.
We also have no confidence there isn't another principal floating around with similar baggage. There's been a recent federal case filed about employment discrimination against MCPS and another middle school administrator, for example. And Beidleman is gross and should be fired. |
This. MCPS senior leadership is well-compensated for their time, but that compensation (and the power that goes with it) is meant to be a trade-off. Plenty of people do not decide to pursue leadership. They remain in the classroom, or as school-level administrators, or work in the Central Office in less senior roles. But if you make it your career goal to be the superintendent of the one of the largest school districts in the country, you are going to be expected to do that job in a manner that is transparent, competent, and responsive to the well-being of students and teachers. You can't take the money and the power but refuse to take the responsibility for things that happened under your watch. That's not how leadership works. |
Stop lying. Beidleman is ONE case. Of many. The buck stops at the top of the chain, and right now, it's McKnight. I have nothing against her personally, and indeed, I love her dress sense But as with previous holders of that office, she has not done enough to communicate about important matters, and she has not started to deal with important matters. We don't want to hear about wellness and equity!!! We want to hear about SAFETY and ACADEMIC RIGOR.

People are also quick to look at McKnight because she has a history of speaking in a manner designed to deflect, stating things that are maybe not technically lies but are not truth either. Anyone who has paid attention to MCPS for the past 3 years has seen multiple examples.
One of the speakers in the board meeting yesterday said something about a report that was supposed to be released in October and staff on hand proudly updated that it will come out in December. But nobody ever updates on delays or holds anyone accountable. That goes back to leadership who don't think they're accountable to anyone. She is responsible for that. Another example - her contract clearly said she's supposed to live in Montgomery County and the contract generously gave her a full year to move (plus the months where she wasn't officially super but knew she had the job). She waited until the last possible minute ...supposedly...but there is some weird stuff afoot with her claiming her house in PG is her principal residence. You can't live in Bethesda to get residency for a job and have your principal residence for tax relief be in PG. |
It was closed because the MCPS central office defenders kept reporting posts and Jeff got sick of dealing with it. He basically said if there's more to discuss, start a new thread. |
