In any salaried job you should expect to do some work outside the work day.
I do agree many teachers are overworked and many of the things MCPS asks them to do are burdensome and could be taken off their plates so they can focus on what they like doing and what's most beneficial for kids which is teaching. |
Some but not all. I'm not sure anyone can plan and grade for a week's worth of teaching, respond to emails, post materials and make copies in just 45 minutes a day over the week. |
I work in HR for a huge corporation and actually you really shouldn't. I'd say 99% don't. They leave it for the next day unless it's extremely urgent. It definitely isn't the norm. Stop trying to make it seem like it is. |
Thank you for saying this. I’m a teacher. I’ve worked most of this Sunday and I’m nowhere near done. I hate the idea that working 10 or so hours on a weekend day should be normalized for teachers. My DH reminds me that the reason teachers are only given 45 minutes a day to do half our jobs is because we continue to make it work. He is adamant that we should all stick to our contract. That means grading won’t get done. Recommendation letters won’t get written. Emails won’t get responses. He says that’s when teachers will start to be respected, when we collectively refuse to be taken advantage of. |
