DC ranked almost last for home and community safety

It's funny because all those things can be pursued together and the crime bill was killed by the republican congress/biden, tool.

That "crime bill" enabled crime fool.

The crime bill would have made things worse! My god!

And yes, a competent government can do both things. Our leaders turn to the sideshow BS because it’s all they have. They use it to try to mask how bad they are at their jobs.

This has zero to do with local government. If this aspect of living here troubles you, then leave. New York would also be a problematic choice.

Yeah, those terrorists are carjacking people like crazy this year, huh?

Is that the name you give to the carjacking teens?

The “crime bill” would have eliminated minimum sentences for violent crimes and reduced maximum sentences for those crimes to the average sentence, which would have reduced criminal penalties in half for the exact violent crimes that are exploding right now: homicide, carjacking, and assault with a deadly weapon.

You voted for it. Now eat it.

This is a weird ranking resulting in a very bizarre mix of cities so I’m not giving it much weight. There’s a lot to love about DC but it has an increasing crime problem that its leadership needs to address. It’s no secret that the crime is overwhelmingly skewed in certain areas such that it affects certain demographics more (though it’s trickling out of those areas more than anyone should feel comfortable with) but the city only pretends to care about poor POC (unless they commit crime, then we must treat them with kid gloves) so here we are.

I still like it and generally feel safe, but I’ll move if that changes, and it could. I have never voted for any of the idiots on our council or the mayor but too many people do apparently.

+1, DH and I lived in DC for 5 years and then migrated out to VA. Now we literally only set foot in DC to go to work, where we park in our secure buildings. We used to have occasional date nights in DC after work, but we don’t anymore because it’s not worth it. It’s really sad.

I live and work in DC. I've never been robbed, never had my car broken into and have never had my car stolen. Lots of us here thank you. I go out at night all the time. I NEVER step foot in VA. Never. Not worth it. Please, there are people like you. I'm way happier in DC.

Crime is skyrocketing in the entire DC area (including the suburbs.

Yet, somehow, people are still voting for radical do-nothing progressives like Steve Descano out in Fairfax county.

This. Demographic differences in the burbs are going to keep the crime lower than DC (and I'm not just talking about race but also SES) but everyone is kidding themselves if they don't think Nova and MoCo voters are falling for the same type of politicians pushing the same crappy policies as those in DC.

Ooooh! Burn!!!! Lol. People seem to be freaking out about high numbers — without bothering to notice the factors that actually led to the high numbers. If you already have your rants worked out, there’s no need to post a chart that you can’t be bothered to read or understand.
