| I would send to VT not the other two. |
Probably. But it depends on the M/V split. And also rigor. 4.07– with Bs tough APs or an upward trend and a lot of rigor is different than an honors regular mix, fewer APs and ES instead of AP Bio, Chem, Physics, BC Calc. UVA seems to want AP across all 5 core. My DD got into WM with 0 AP STEM classes (honors science and standard Calc), but every single Humanities AP offered, except psych. Including two different foreign languages. A 4.1, but 4 years of music with outside activities (no grade bump) and 6 years of foreign language unweighted, before APs. WM liked that she had found her passion in an area where they are strong apparently. UVA would have laughed at her, because off the charts rigor in 3 subjects, and meh in 2. Point is, scattergram don’t tell the whole story. And not all 4.1s are created equal. |
He will be competitive at all of them. |
| Isn't next week free to apply to all VA schools? Why not send to all? |
What do you base this on? |
Lol UVA, not at all WM, if he gets lucky in ED VT, quite possibly Add JMU |
what is this? |
Experience. Acceptances of my own two white kids, albeit from LCPS. Similar numbers. UVA may depends on course rigor and other intangibles and how they construct class rank (I know FCPS doesn’t rank, but believe be the admissions offices do and UVa wants top 10%). Similar for W&M (although why W&M for business?). VT the supplementals matter but the numbers are a stronger fit. Demonstrated interest with admissions counselor assigned to VT also helps. My two were 3-for-3 with these schools with 1420 and 1150 and 4.66 and 3.98 weighted, respectively. |

Not going to identify son much more, but some of the previous academic points are considered. One very strong EC that he is passionate about and did all through high school. APs in core classes.
Math is above 700 for that 1380. My gut tells me: Slim chance for uva Slightly better chance for wm, and he demonstrated interest Decent chance for va tech He’s applying to other schools too. |
The Asians will flag this post to take it down |
| I would. His chance of being admitted it low to UVA. If you don’t submit, you will always wonder. In this case, I don’t think his score will hurt (GPA hurts more). I also agree that they make think his score is lower. |
| DD has a 1600 SAT, 4.2 (11th grade) FCPS, NMSF, 13 APs, and good ECs. Not sure if DD would get into UVA, WM, or VT |
| A lot depends on average scores at their high school. If the high school average is that or higher then maybe think twice. But if the high school average is 1000ish (or lower) then submit it. They will see that the applicant is doing better than their high school classmates. That can make a difference. |
Probably offered admission at all three barring really shitty essays. Come on, now. |
|
I would submit. My child has the same score and I’m telling her to submit because it’s a good score and I don’t want to play the game of which school has the 50% score.
I would agree, probably no for UVA, possible yes for WM especially as a spring admit and possible yes VT, although my sons friends last year didn’t get in with similar scores. Who knows! |
