Is it rude to ask hair dresser if I can style myself after a cut?

I think it is fine. I go to a curly hair specialist who does a great job cutting and styling my hair. But I also go to a regular stylist for color. I just leave those appointments with wet hair and deal with it later. I wouldn't waste time with blow drying if it is not working for you.

I do this all the time with no issue. Are you able to style your hair back at your office or wherever? I have curls too so I sympathize- I have to bend my head over with my hair dripping wet to get the curls to lay right and it’s a whole process that I just couldn’t really do at the office, but maybe you can!

I think it would be a little weird to do your own hair with your own products right there in the salon. May be awkward for other customers to see that you don’t like the way your stylist does it. But it seems like your options are to ask him and make it awkward, reschedule your haircut, be unhappy with your hair for the evening. OR maybe you could ask for a blow out and just wear it straight for a few days - I can never get my hair as smooth and straight as my stylist can, though it adds a lot of time and some extra money to my appointment!

I don't have an opinion on whether it's rude but it's your hair, your styling product, and your money so you should be able to do what you wish with all three.

It's short, curly, and the drying/styling looks awful (to me) because they treat it like straight hair. It took me a long time to tell them not to fool with it after the cut. Also, after a cut my hair goes into what a previous stylist called 'scissor shock.' It takes a few days for the curls to look right. I was thrilled that that stylist got it.

This is so real. I find it can be as long as two weeks before my hair looks the way I want. (I have long hair and get it cut every 4-6 months, so two weeks isn’t a big deal.)
