Why is MCPS sending out a safety letter if they state it does not refer to our area?

Is this targeted to some schools only? I didn’t get this letter.

Check your spam. It went out to everyone.

Not that she could actually know what “everyone she knows” has heard. Such a stupid statement.

Some schools have already faced a lot of anti-Semitic activity from adults outside of the community. My child is at Northwood and it’s not overblown for MCPS to be extra vigiliant right now.

The latest threats from Hamas are frightening. I’m glad MCPS is addressing it. My friend in FL shared that their school district is as well. So it’s not just MCPS overreacting.

My kid’s daycare operates in a county-owned facility and even we got the letter.

MCPS should close schools tomorrow.
Students and teachers could use a mental health day. I know my kid would appreciate it

Yes, you're right. I see it now.

Dear MCPS Families and Staff,

This message is to recognize information online in social media and some news outlets reporting on a call from a former leader of Hamas for a “day of rage” on Friday, Oct. 13. Our Office of Systemwide Safety and Emergency Management is in close contact with and working in tandem with our police partners who report no actionable or verifiable threats referencing the Montgomery County community.

As the MCPS Chief Safety Officer, I wish to remind families that our schools are some of the safest places in our community, where all exterior doors are locked and visitors must enter through our visitor management system. Additionally, all security staff have been advised of this information and will maintain a heightened awareness throughout all schools.

Pamela Wheeler-Taylor
MCPS Chief Safety Officer

Reading comprehension fail. The phrase, "no actionable or verifiable threats referencing the Montgomery County community," doesn't not mean "they state it does not refer to our area". It means they're being appropriately careful.

Reports of students stabbed in France on day of jihad by some asylum seeker shouting Alahu Akhbar.

Israeli embassy worker stabbed in Beijing.

Are you sending your kids to school today?

I heard about it 2-3 days ago. Glad schools sent out the memo.

My kid is stuck on a bus at the moment, not allowed off due to a pipe leak at another school?
