Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
|
Letter below:
Dear MCPS Families and Staff, This message is to recognize information online in social media and some news outlets reporting on a call from a former leader of Hamas for a “day of rage” on Friday, Oct. 13. Our Office of Systemwide Safety and Emergency Management is in close contact with and working in tandem with our police partners who report no actionable or verifiable threats referencing the Montgomery County community. As the MCPS Chief Safety Officer, I wish to remind families that our schools are some of the safest places in our community, where all exterior doors are locked and visitors must enter through our visitor management system. Additionally, all security staff have been advised of this information and will maintain a heightened awareness throughout all schools. Pamela Wheeler-Taylor MCPS Chief Safety Officer |
| Because parents will worry about it anyway. It’s to make us feel better. |
| Strange. I hadn't heard anything about a day of rage, even though I follow the news. So this letter could just worry more people. |
And anxious kids will worry. This way, as a parent, you can say, it’s being monitored. |
| Because you’d complain if they didn’t send an email. |
| They should shut the schools. No harm in that move |
No, no one I know had heard about this. They're trying to make it into a thing. It's not like in previous incidents, when MCPS wrote something like: "Some students have been circulating threats at one of our schools and we want to reassure everyone blah blah blah". This is more like: Let's piggy back on a major international horror to virtue signal that we're looking out for your kids, because we've had a scandal in the news recently (Beidleman sexual assault) that we'd like to distract you from. Totally different and exploitative. I don't like it. |

That’s not fair. I heard about it earlier today from my synagogue and other local Jewish orgs. So while I haven’t seen reports personally, someone has and is acting on them. This is not just MCPS. |
|
Because we have a lot of jewish students and teachers. We dont know who may respond to this terrorist call to action. So vigilance is in order.

| Local Jewish private schools are cancelling school tomorrow so they probably want to get ahead of the calls if mcps will be open. And they should be open. |

Do you seriously believe this? How on earth could you send your kids to a school system that you believe has such bad motives? Seriously? What is wrong with you? |
| To the PP saying “no, no one I know has heard of this” - congrats you are likely not Jewish! |
| It sounds like it’s a general threat to society and Jewish orgs in particular, so mcps is correct to make the community aware to be on alert. |
