Maddy Albright’s home for sale

Cato is not my source of choice but they brought the receipts on this one. Her diplomatic discourse really was a lot of bloviating and harmful nonsense.

In 1992, frustrated by the reluctance of then‐Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Colin Powell to support promiscuous military intervention around the world, Albright asked him: “What’s the use of having this superb military you’re always talking about if we can’t use it?”

In his autobiography he related: “I thought I would have an aneurysm. American GIs were not toy soldiers to be moved around on some sort of global game board.”

Even worse was her 1997 question to Gen. Hugh Shelton, another then‐JSC chairman: “Hugh, I know I shouldn’t even be asking you this, but what we really need in order to go in and take out Saddam is a precipitous event — something that would make us look good in the eyes of the world. Could you have one of our U‑2s fly low enough — and slow enough — so as to guarantee that Saddam could shoot it down?”

He said yes, as soon as SHE qualified to fly the plane.

She was a public figure. Will call her whatever I want.

NP. Couldn’t care less about being disrespectful.

But - OP is clearly a huge d-bag to say it that way. Real inside the beltway guy! Pleated khaki, political debates at the dinner table dweeb.

I love the back patio but some of the carpets are horrid.

I think people don't care and don't like the granny much either. The woman's devastated the whole regions and almost given Powell an aneurism. Allegedly.

Saging it wouldn't be remiss

When one’s mediocrity is only matched by one’s belief in own infallibility; and one’s outsize influence only matched by one’s absence of conscience.

Can you tell from the decor?

The picture of Dorian Gray comes to mind, in reverse.

It was in her role as U.N. ambassador in 1996 that Albright uttered the most infamous words of her career, in an appearance on “60 Minutes.”

The show’s correspondent Lesley Stahl asked Albright about the effect that U.N. sanctions were having on Iraqi society, saying, “We have heard that a half-million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?”

Albright responded with chilling equanimity: “I think this is a very hard choice, but the price — we think the price is worth it.”

Also, her whole self made thing was a myth. She was married to a Guggenheim relative (so connected and powerful), dabbled, fundraised and presto entered the workforce full time in the ripe middle age at super high positions and never looked back.

She forgot she was Jewish until the Post wrote an article — the article is quite something:

She talked about her heritage a lot in her memoir. I believe that she didn’t know.

She knew. As to quote the late great queen and her comment about selective remembering of discussions.

Everyone knew she knew. She thought it beneath her.
