The risk of consequences isn’t from the parents. It’s having an unexcused absence and you skipped on the day of a quiz. Will the teacher let you make it up? How much does it hurt your grade if they don’t?

Right. And honestly, the parents who endorse this crap knowingly are not doing themselves or their kids any favors.

+1

And that why parents suck! They are ruining teachers. Then the kid fails a test or quiz because they lost a day of instruction. Complain there is no retake or complain they got a B. Then ask the teacher to make extra credit project so their loser kid can boost their grade.

But in fairness, I think senior skip day is much later like in the Spring. Is it happening now, this quarter in the Fall?

LOL exactly. Some parents shoot themselves in the foot but then want to turn around and cry and blame the school.

Why? As the PP said the risk is the unexcused absence and what potentially from it. By the time you are a senior you should be able to weigh the risk and trade offs.

If teachers of seniors are a-holes.

I teach mixed grade classes (an AP elective) and use Senior Skip Day as a day when the juniors and sophomores in the class can get caught up on any missing work and/or receive individualized help with concepts they're having trouble grasping. If a student is all caught up and doesn't need any review, great. Those kids can work on assignments for other classes.

It's not a big deal.

And I teach an AP class only offered to seniors. I can’t waste a day because I have too much content that needs to be covered before exams.

Call me an a-hole if you want.

If you can't figure out how to deal with one day where you won't have a majority of your students so you pop quiz them as "punishment," you're not only an a-hole, you're a crappy teacher who doesn’t know how to plan.

Call me an a-hole if you want.

Teachers have the lesson planned for weeks. Senior skip day is a random day. Teachers don’t know exactly when that day is so how can the plan. You are the a-hole.

Dedicated Teacher - thanks for all you do!

Some parents suck!

Like I said… call me an a-hole if you want.

I care more about preparing my students than feeding into senioritis. If that makes me a crappy teacher in your eyes, let me assure you that I’ll spend absolutely no time feeling bad about this.

Are senior skip days really random? I was class of 97 and we did the 97th day of school for ours.

Thank you! I appreciate your support. We don’t find a lot of support for teachers on DCUM!

Senior Skip Day is FAR from random. All you have to do is listen to them talk. It's no secret when the day is, and it's planned at least a week in advance. If the a-hole teacher can't adjust her plans, that's on her and it makes her a crappy teacher. Does her world fall apart when there's a snow day?

Exactly! It's NOT random, and if Ms. Senior AP Teacher doesn't know when it is, that says volumes about her relationships with her students.

And we wonder why teachers quit? Just look at this.

A teacher is considered crappy and accused of having poor relationships with students because she… wants to do her job well?

Ridiculous.
