Well, yes, that's a pretty well-established fact. |
i am sure pp was referring to phone message thing |
This. I bet he paid upfront and the “seller” had randomly selected OPs address. I bet he was waiting, partially in disbelief, partially in hope. |
| Did the guy seem sketchy? |
|
OP with update and answers to a few questions -
He did not seem sketchy. He was well-kempt, dressed in normal/nice clothes, etc. I totally disagree that he was there to steal packages. Why wait right next to my camera for 40 minutes before opening them? That makes no sense. Last night at midnight, a different guy came to my front door and stood in front of it like he was waiting for something or someone. He didn’t ring the doorbell. After about 3 minutes, he left. I assume another person who was told to come pick something up at my house? |
Yes, they were both mine. |
So two people did this within the last few days. I would feel really creeped out! |
OP is there anyone a little mental that you may have pissed off? Not victim blaming but wondering if there is a theme- it could be some tiny non-infraction that set someone off. |
|
This a pretty well known scam. I don’t know how you get the scammers to not sue your address as a meeting or pick up point.
Probably really confusing for the first guy as there were packages on the step but not addressed to him. |

Ok - OP back with another update. Someone on Grindr is telling guys to meet them here!
This morning, within an hour, 3 different guys came to our house. The first knocked - when we opened the door, he said he had the wrong house and left. The second stood in front of our fence, looking at our house every so often. When DH went out to ask him why he was there, he just said he was waiting for someone and wouldn’t offer additional details. He left after about 15 minutes. A third guy showed up about half an hour later. I went out to ask him if I could help him, and he said he was told to meet someone here. I told him that he was the third person to come this morning, and he got very embarrassed and said “oh, well, someone on an app is telling people they live here.” I asked which app and he said “Grindr.” Still don’t think there’s anything I can do to make this stop, but at least we know the source of our mysterious visitors! |
Hmm I'd be checking my husbands account. Someone mad at him and sending dudes to your house? |
| Weird. Are you in DC? I wonder if someone is mixing up the coordinates, or the people waiting are new to DC and don't know to pay attention to NW vs NE, etc. |
This is the only explanation that makes sense to me |
But it must be multiple apps, right? The first guy was looking for a package, not a person. Sorry, OP. This sounds stressful. Could you search for your address and see if anything weird pops up? Likely not, as people usually give addresses in DMs, but maybe. |
Maybe it is multiple apps? Not sure. There have now been 7 instances of people showing up at our house. Sometimes they come to the door, sometimes they just stand on the sidewalk (like the guys this morning). |
