JD or MFA?

How could you even begin to answer that question. You have no idea how life would turn out on the other side.

And asking that question is ridiculous because the odds of a reader having considered that option is practically nil, so asking it without context is absurd.

What ??? Do you mean like trying to paint a picture for the jury ?

Lol. I think you must mean MBA?

But I actually do have a JD and an MFA (creative writing).

MFA

Most lawyers I know hate their jobs.

I have a MFA and have been very well employed as a self taught software engineer

Most MFAs I know hate being poor. Of course if you have family or spousal money, MFA is more fun.

Another lawyer here who also has an MFA! MFA was fun but largely useless when I decided not to go into academia.

Is it common for lawyers to quit to become poets?

No one pays for an MFA, right?

I was actually curious if there are poets who quit poet-ing to become a lawyer.

I need to pay bills so happy with my JD. But if I was married to someone who could support me, MFA all the way. I'd love to write books.

JD - not all lawyers hate their jobs. There are a ton of perfectly happy attorneys out here.

Same with MA in lit, also have JD. Reading and writing well are important in law; cases sometimes play out like a good short story/novella. Ha! You are writing for an audience; making the story interesting can be helpful.
