I think I’m having a chemical pregnancy - what do I do?

There's nothing you can do, OP, to prevent losing this pregnancy.

However, I would contact your OB because it could be that you need progesterone supplementation or HCG (it happens, but it's much rarer). What you should do is request a series of HCG and progesterone tests the next time you're pregnant, so your levels can be evaluated.

I’ve had two live births and this is my first miscarriage. Would you still recommend this?

Yes, it has nothing to do with your prior history. I've had 2 live births and then 3 miscarriages: testing determined that progesterone was low, and HCG normal, but now, given my age, I'm not sure I still want to try to conceive.

I’ve had 3 chemicals and I never bothered to call my dr as there is really nothing they can do unfortunately. They are pretty common and I did end up getting pregnant a cycle right after one of them.

OP here. Thanks for the support, all. Called the midwives, they want me to come in for a blood test today and Wednesday to confirm, so I’m on the way.

There’s probably an argument to be made that it’s unnecessary, but it’s a good excuse to take the morning off work and stop for a cookie.

Plus, it’s not like a full real period yet. Red flow, but pretty light, and starting and stopping, with some small clots. Red flow for about 36 hours now and all together probably (slightly) less than one full pad? So a) I have a tiny bit of hope which frankly sucks and b) assuming it’s a miscarriage I’m a bit concerned it’s incomplete. A regular period starts much more quickly for me.

Anyway, the whole thing sucks. Blah.

I'm sorry, OP. This happened to me a couple of times and it was a chemical. Successful pregnancy after that. Part of this agony is that we test so much earlier and more precisely now, so what would've been dismissed as a "late period" in decades past is now a known pregnancy loss. Sometimes I wish I hadn't known.

It is good to get medical attention because then a confirmed chemical pregnancy/miscarriage is in your history and your provider will know to monitor you a little closer in any subsequent pregnancy.

NP but yes. I had no issues with my first pregnancy but needed progesterone to sustain my second.

OP here - it was a long and winding road after this. It was a miscarriage, and then I ended up needed IVF (this was also my thread: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1193713.page) but I’m currently pregnant, everything going smoothly!

Thanks for all the support!
