Claude Moore Pool Air Quality

The new pool opening in 2025 is in Ashburn, the Broadlands area. It will be between CM and DS.

NCAP switched its older groups to Dulles South. The air quality is significantly worse when there are 30+ teenagers kicking and moving water versus younger swimmers. The chloramines get stuck at the pool level. Not as many chloramines are created with younger swimmers.

Seems like it would be so easy to put exhaust fans in!

The younger swimmers will be fine. They did start running some system for longer overnight and that helped. I think it will likely be bad air for large meets but practices shouldn't be a problem.

It actually is hard. I don’t know the specifics, but band aid fixes don’t usually make meaningful improvements to air quality of an indoor pool. There are too many moving parts.

I swam at a pool that had bad air quality for years. Fans and other fixes only helped a little bit. It did not get better until major infrastructure renovations were done.
