No it's not a drop in, it's a structured program with enrollment. I have done no ballet ever, I don't think a drop in would work for me.

Would you mind sharing where and then give us an update? I hope it goes really well!

You don't need one. You can wear lounge wear and yoga pants.

A "ballet body" is a body that wants to try ballet.

OP, PP is also right that you should plan on having your hair away from your face and that you should get ballet slippers if you don't have them already. Otherwise you can wear leggings/ fitted top if you don't have or don't want to wear the traditional leotard and tights.

Make sure your teacher knows that you have knee issues. You'll need to be careful in certain positions.

Ha! I did this and it was terrible! I was the only actual adult. The rest was teens that were obviously using the class to get their 6th day of practice in for the week. I felt like an elephant in tights next to all teens plus I didn’t remember all the names to the movements or how to do them. There was zero review. I’m sure it was hysterical to watch

It's the OP. I have been to 5 classes and am loving it! I'm just wearing running tights and a yoga top. I did get canvas ballet shoes.

I didn't mention where because I'm in Toronto and the school is the National Ballet School of Canada. Some of you might be familiar with Karen Kain.

There's a range of people including one fellow. Most are in their late 20s to 40s. I was a little nervous at the first class but felt comfortable pretty quickly.

I find it very meditative and relaxing, and find myself looking forward to each class. I'll probably continue next term with the next level. Thanks to everyone for your comments!

Thanks for the update, OP! Makes me regret my decision not to sign up for the adult ballet class I was considering.

The adult beginner class at Maryland Youth Ballet is wonderful for those of you who are local and want to give it a try.
