London for 4 days with a 4 and 1.5 year old

We took our double stroller everywhere but my kids hopped in and out of the stroller and DH lugged the stroller up and down the stairs of the metro multiple times a day.
All those suggestions above are great. The museums are free. Make reservations for everything! The science museum has a section called The Garden that the kids had so much fun at.

Oh yes +1 to the Garden at the Science Museum! It's in the basement.

The Princess Diana Memorial Playground in Hyde Park

The Transport Museum at Covent Garden

The Play Base (soft play area) at the Army Navy Museum in Chelsea.

Royal Albert Hall has Storytelling and music sessions for under 4s. You’ll need to double check the days (I think Weds?) and prebook, but they are lovely.

I second the princess diana memorial playground (just come before kids are out of school, otherwise it gets busy and a bit overwhelming. My kids LOVED it. The transport museum is terrific; they have a really fun, soft play area. There were lots of moms with littles hanging out

We absolutely LOVED the playground at St. James Park (near buckingham palace). Go in the morning, when it's extra quiet and you can stroll and see all the ducks, maybe some changing leaves, and the playground itself is lovely and fenced in. There's a cafe attached and you can get a cup of coffee or a snack. It is much smaller than the princess diana playground, but felt less overwhelming too.

They might enjoy a quick stroll around the natural history museum to see the dinos.

I haven't been, but I've heard the postal museum is great and has a terrific play area. My kids are older, but absolutely loved london!! Ohh check out a market!! There's pizza and things that would keep a toddler/preschooler happy and then delicious food for the parents and some nice ciders too. We went to Seven dials market. If you are prepared to buy your children a souvenir....visit Hamly's toy store, it's amazing!!! They have like 5 levels with some play areas and cool things to see and then a nice souvenir area with sweet stuffed animals, ect. My kids took pics with the lego queen lol.

London is so much fun with little kids; it was more fun for me being in london with my kids than when I was in college.

+1 to the Postal Museum. Our kids are a little older, but still one of their favorite things we did in London. A bit off the beaten path but an absolutely must with kids your ages.

The replies are great. I'm thinking of taking my oldest DD (6) to London just us two for 5-6 days.

It really, really is! We took our DS at when he was 3 and 7 and seeing it through little kid eyes was magical. Headed back at Christmas and can’t wait to see what he thinks at 12.

Postal museum is a must! I recommend it to everyone. The 4 year old will love it. My 6 year old DC and my 40 year old DH still talk about it a year later.

I also love the playground at Holland Park if you find yourself over that way.

Forgot to add some details- start your Postal Museum experience at the Mail Rail ride. It is across the street from the main part of the museum. You don’t even have to go through the exhibits because the ride and play area on that side are a complete experience in themselves. The gift shop in the main building has picture books about the mail rail cats- it’s a great story. If you’re a fan of preserved infrastructure, mail rail is dazzling. Adults taller than 5’10” or so will feel really scrunched, fyi.

London is so great with kids! Mine loved the London transport museum, the Diana playground, the eye (and the playground at the base) and St. James park. Now I want to go back and visit some of the other recommendations from this!
