I second the princess diana memorial playground (just come before kids are out of school, otherwise it gets busy and a bit overwhelming.  My kids LOVED it.  The transport museum is terrific; they have a really fun, soft play area.  There were lots of moms with littles hanging out :)

We absolutely LOVED the playground at St. James Park (near buckingham palace).  Go in the morning, when it's extra quiet and you can stroll and see all the ducks, maybe some changing leaves, and the playground itself is lovely and fenced in.  There's a cafe attached and you can get a cup of coffee or a snack.  It is much smaller than the princess diana playground, but felt less overwhelming too.

They might enjoy a quick stroll around the natural history museum to see the dinos.

I haven't been, but I've heard the postal museum is great and has a terrific play area.  My kids are older, but absolutely loved london!! Ohh check out a market!! There's pizza and things that would keep a toddler/preschooler happy and then delicious food for the parents and some nice ciders too.  We went to Seven dials market.  If you are prepared to buy your children a souvenir....visit Hamly's toy store, it's amazing!!! They have like 5 levels with some play areas and cool things to see and then a nice souvenir area with sweet stuffed animals, ect.  My kids took pics with the lego queen lol.

+1 to the Postal Museum. Our kids are a little older, but still one of their favorite things we did in London. A bit off the beaten path but an absolutely must with kids your ages.[/quote]

Postal museum is a must! I recommend it to everyone. The 4 year old will love it. My 6 year old DC and my 40 year old DH still talk about it a year later.
