New to Pyle middle school...

It's not the nicest school but if your child is athletic and/or wealthy they will have an easier time. I'd say half of our parent friends say their child thinks it is okay and half say their children hate it.

I think the larger problem at the school is teachers. There are some that are terrible and play favorites, favoring the more "popular" kids and who are biased in many different ways.

Curious about this: "biased is many different ways." How so?

It's a very white school. It's not really welcoming to kids with special needs. If you can live with that kind of school it's okay.

Well... This is kind of DC's experience.

It’s a common one, unfortunately. Not the worst of the W feeders, but not the best.

other than that, you can join the PTSA which is pretty active

the school is big but they break it up into two sub-groups so kids are mostly in the same classes with others in that cohort

For DC's grade it was three subgroups. I think it depends on how large of a class.

It used to be three. The county made them cut it to two, so the teams are much bigger. Hopefully they are coping with the change.

Your child will still be able to make winter and spring school sports tryouts for basketball and soccer in the spring. They are both really hard to make despite the fact that MS sports are kind of lame. Much worse for boys. Heard more tha 100 for 15 spots on basketball, more than 100 for 22 for soccer. But girls teams are also extremely difficult too.

Soccer is a Fall sport in MCPS.

In middle school soccer is spring.

Go to a private if you can afford it. The school is way too big, classes too large. Pronouns and racial justice are the only things that are given high priority.

This seems to be true.

Can you say more about this? They don't seem to have it now.

OP if you can get Erika Huck as counselor you're on a win. Both my kids were at Pyle, both very quiet. It's crowded and busy but your kid will get thru.

Intramural basketball is one of the after school activities listed here:

We heard enough from Pyle parents to go private for our DS.

Isn't this true of middle schools in general? Middle school sucks all around. It's always sucked unless you go through puberty early and/or one of the popular ones. Just find your people and get through it.
