| Hello, I am under contract on a house in the Pyle school zone. I noticed enrollment is about 1300 kids!! Any advice for a quiet kid entering 6th grade, mid-year? I’m guessing sports and clubs will be full/too late to join. (Expected move in date around early November). Thanks for the advice! |
| Middle school athletics start in 7th grade. But there are some intramural sports clubs. |
|
I'd suggest checking out the after school activities (there are a ton) and there's a buddy program for new kids that I'm pretty sure would still be accessible in Nov.
other than that, you can join the PTSA which is pretty active the school is big but they break it up into two sub-groups so kids are mostly in the same classes with others in that cohort |

You can join clubs at any time during the school year. There aren't a ton of them. I agree with the advice about after school activities.
Your child will still be able to make winter and spring school sports tryouts for basketball and soccer in the spring. They are both really hard to make despite the fact that MS sports are kind of lame. Much worse for boys. Heard more tha 100 for 15 spots on basketball, more than 100 for 22 for soccer. But girls teams are also extremely difficult too. |
For DC's grade it was three subgroups. I think it depends on how large of a class. |
| There’s some intramural sports that anyone can join, like drop in basketball which was popular when my son was in 6th. Most clubs can be joined at any point in the year and I believe the after school activities change throughout the year. 6th grade is a rough year at almost any middle school and yes Pyle is big. But kids who each went through have enjoyed the opportunities to take electives, the music program (band, orchestra, choir) is excellent, and overall it’s a great middle school. |
Sixth graders aren't able to try out for sports teams, only 7th and 8th. |
| The school is terrible. |
| No it’s not. |
| The school is way too big and monopolized by mean kids and entitled parents. The ones that wanted good education moved their kids to private |
Not our experience at all. |
Well... This is kind of DC's experience. |
Sorry to hear that. My DS who is at Whitman now enjoyed his MS experience at Pyle. He had a nice group of laid back friends and generally liked his classes and teachers. |
| My child found a good peer group at Pyle and I thought the parents were friendly and not stuck up, though most seemed busy with multiple kids and jobs. My kid also took some really interesting classes at Pyle that broadened horizons and had some excellent teachers, though some less good than others. Overall the grade size felt comfortable by the time the class moved to Whitman. |
