Uber rule for children

Ugh, fixing the quoting.

Why? Where are you going that you won't need the booster?

Travel boosters are pretty light and easy to carry. Plus, virtually all airlines allow you to check a car seat or booster for free. So you get a travel booster seat, use it in the Uber, get dropped off at the departures curbside, walk in and check the booster and pick it up at your destination. When you get to your destination, whether you are riding in a rental car or a friend/relative's car or Uber, you will still need a booster.

Sorry, there is no situation where "it doesn't make sense to bring a booster".

You never ever NEED to get to the airport. You WANT to go on a trip.

Quite possibly the dumbest comment I’ve read in a while

So? How is that relevant?

Can’t you request an Uber with a car seat?

Not one big enough for a seven year old. Just go without a booster or bring a bubble bum.

Get a bubble bum and call it a day. Unless your kid is very tall (so the seatbelt fits really well) and is like weeks from turning 8 (which is the law in VA re: not needing a car seat). But even then I just don’t think it’s that big of a deal to bring a travel booster.

Yes, we just did this with my (large) 7 year old for an airport trip. It's fine.

Thank you all. Your responses and concerns are much appreciated. I am trying to solve a logistics issue.(long story). May not even need an Uber anymore and we should be okay with our own car seat. But I wanted to check in case it gets to taking Uber.
OP.

YES we do it all the time - these responses are pure insanity.

Yep. We do have a bubble bum that we use when we can but occasionally go without. You can put a toddler in an Uber and they aren't going to say anything.

Very DCUM of you!

There is an exception to the car seat rule for taxis - just FYI.

I take my 6 year old in the car and ubers all the time without a car seat or a booster - we live in NYC.

We take ubers all the time, kid is now 7. Never used a carseat.

Do you mean a booster seat? Mine is 14 now but I can't believe 7-year-olds are still in car seats.

It's the law in Virginia.

VIRGINIA’S CHILD RESTRAINT DEVICE LAW
(Code of Virginia Chapter 10 Article 13)

The major requirements of Virginia’s Child Safety Seat Law:
Child restraint devices are required for children through the age of seven (until 8th birthday).
