Uber rule for children

Can I take Uber with my 7 yr old without having a car seat? Need to make a short 15 minutes trip within Virginia.

How would you feel if the Uber was in a car accident and your child was injured?

Yes

The Uber driver can refuse to take you. I would refuse, if I were an Uber driver.

Totally. In my experience, Uber drivers are flexible on both rules and laws.

If your kid needs a car seat, they need it in the Uber. Don’t put your driver in a position where they could get a ticket. (Also don’t put your kid in an unsafe seat either)

Or, duh, and who your child could get killed.

Honestly, do you people not understand the purpose of car seats, and how many lives they have saved?

I know two people whose children were seriously injured (one killed) due to similar circumstances. One was in a cab (that was hit from behind when stopped). The other took their baby out of the seat for just a few minutes to calm her down by breastfeeding them.

Please don’t risk it.

Imagine how these parents feel?

Just tell the Uber driver your kid is 8 if they ask. Its not something I did often but sometimes you just need to get to the airport and it doesn’t make sense to bring a booster.

we take uber all the time with no car seats. Never once been refused

We take Uber all the time with no car seats. Usually we will request Uber black if it's an option. It's like taking a cab, buckle the kid up and go.

Your 7 year old is old enough to know that you are lying to get what you want/out of convenience. You have absolutely no right to ask them to always tell you the truth.

You never ever NEED to get to the airport. You WANT to go on a trip.

Yes, they have saved lives, but all of us grew up without carseats, and the 7 year old needing a carseat is pretty new.

It’s extremely common for even toddlers to be in cabs in europe with no car seat.
