And how can Marshall be so far ahead of Woodson?
It’s been discussed in another thread. Marshall got permission from FCPS years ago to automatically enroll most 11th and 12th grade students in IB English. At other schools the kids, not the school, decide whether they want to take IB or AP classes.
When a higher percentage of kids take an IB class/test, it boosts the “college readiness” component of the U.S. News ratings.
If other schools also were given leave to automatically enroll kids in IB/AP courses, or Marshall let the kids decide whether to take IB English, Woodson and several other schools would be rated higher than Marshall.
It’s a good reminder not to take the ratings too seriously, because they be gamed.
