Carry on backpack that isn't super ugly?

Anonymous
Nomatic makes a backpack that seems to defy space constraints. I have no idea how it fits so much stuff inside.

This is in the category of what I need, but way over my budget and it's still ugly. I'm willing to spend up to $300. I do have a nylon commuter Tumi backpack (Cora) that I love.

Can you explain what about this bag fits your criteria? I agree that it’s really ugly.

I have the Tumi Uma and it’s been great for travel.

Yeah, I need an explanation.

This is basically a carry on suitcase, but backpack instead of roller. So you're looking for something you can pack everything in, not just a backpack for your computer and personal items. Right?

Is there a reason it needs to be a backpack instead of a roller? Any backpack that fits that description is going to be ugly because it's a suitcase on your back. Can't you just do a small roller bag for the overhead and then use your Tumi backpack as your personal item?

Personally, this is something where I would embrace nameless Amazon brands. I think you can buy something identical to these branded ones for half the price. I'm all for paying for quality but in this case I just think it costs a lot to create and market a backpack brand in the US, but the ones on Amazon are the same thing.

I've been using this one for 4 years: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0784LMD7J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&th=1

NP. One of my neighbors has one just like it, and I've always admired it! Now I know where to find one - thanks

I have the same one. Lots of travel and it's still going strong. It really holds a lot, is comfortable to wear, and has the back strap to slide over the roller-bag handle.

OP back here, thanks everyone. Yes, I need it to be a carry-on size case that I can easily transport when I can't roll it. I travel to a variety of locations and sometimes there is smooth sidewalk but sometimes I have no choice but to carry my carryon. I'm about to go on an 11 day trip to four countries with a mix of planes, trains and cars, as well as walking.

I am definitely looking at Bellroy and Everlane.

I personally really like the colorful waterproof type backpacks (Patagonia, NorthFace) but they are too casual and often don't have a water bottle pocket, etc. This is an example of what I like but is too casual: https://www.skogakust.com/products/backsak?variant=8314794901591

I think Tumi is worth looking at more.

I have been looking on Amazon, but haven't had any luck. I don't need any kind of brand name. I just want it to hold up, not be really ugly, and be big enough to hold 4-5 outfits, two pairs of shoes, toiletries, some underwear and a laptop.

Sherpani Camden: https://sherpani.com/products/camden

It works as a single item for an overnight, but also slides on to a carry-on handle if you need a larger rollaboard.

NP, but wow, I really like that one. But I will confess to being a bit brand conscious (not high end, mid range). What is this one a knock off of?

I have this bag too. I bought it on Prime Day four or five years ago because several women in my office had it. I commute by metro, and am on the road every other week. I keep hoping it breaks so I can justify an expensive bag, but this one just keeps on going.

Lands End used to make a suitcase-sized bag that could be worn over the shoulder or as a backpack. They discontinued it years ago, but here it is on Poshmark:
