| While I don’t have the energy to detail why, I know from past research that these numbers are inaccurate |
Well, if we are to believe some of these posters, this is where all the rough and tumble kids go to learn about the real world. |
lol ok |
| BCC for the win! Guess the high farms work! |
Maybe pp should have said "many qualified students don't apply to schools they think they cannot afford." Point is that it's not like the top 10% of each class is applying to all of the top 10% of schools. |
| Why is Brandeis's yield SO low (if I'm understanding this correctly, only 2 of 60 accepted students matriculated)....I think a year or two ago when my DC was looking, their yield was 25-30%. |
What's surprising is how much better RM and Blair do than these vaunted W's. |
Wow, I haven't looked at these stats in years, but boy Whitman got decimated here... Given how rich the school area is, this is almost shocking. On the other hand, Wootton looks incredibly strong, on level with Blair magnet! Pretty interesting data, I wonder if times have changed where top schools prefer more math/science type schools which Blair and Wootton clearly skew toward. |
| Guys, the data is not accurate. With just a cursory glance, I can tell you that based on three inaccuracies--one example being Whitman having no one attending University of Vermont when I know a student who started there last week. This is self-reported data, so it's not complete AND each column may get weaker and weaker with incomplete reporting by each applicant. What does come through, it seems, is that people who apply to one Ivy apply to multiple Ivies (which we knew). And certain colleges remain popular for certain high schools based on previous years' results, which we also knew. |
Yes it's not fully accurate of course, but the Whitman data across multiple selective schools suggests it's statistically significant, it's quite a bit different than many of the other schools. |
I'm willing to bet that kids who get into elite colleges will self report. |
nah, some didn't - applications numbers are probably closed as they all need transcripts. Admitted/Enrolled probably less so. |
Why is that surprising? They each have more than 100 kids graduating who were plucked from other schools for being among the top students in the county for their respective magnets. |
It also shows how fierce the competition is at those schools. Significantly higher number of applications for competitive admission. |
That's not surprising at all given RM's IB program and Blair's CAP and STEM Magnet program. |
