AP World History versus AP Human Geography

Funny, because AP World is now a lot easier than it was before the last redesign. Now covers only the modern era. In addition, those who have already taken APUSH have covered a lot of the content before getting to World.

There is barely any overlap between APUSH and World - the overlap with Euro is greater.

AP world just doesn’t seem that hard. My DD got a 4 on the exam without studying (and failed APUSH exam tho that was during 9th grade/online schooling).

AP World is a more challenging course, with harder writing and a very broad coverage of content. AP Human Geo is a social science class and student's tend to enjoy it more. There is a wider range of skills taught in this course. AP Human Geo is an elective whereas your child will have to take a world history class for graduation (either AP World or Honors).

Child could definitely take both courses during their school career. If that is the major they want to pursue, stay in AP World, and drop another elective class to take AP Human Geo.

I have taught both of these courses for many years. High achieving kids often fall in love with APHG. The curriculum is so fun and can be life changing. I don’t think any of my AP World kids would say the same about that class. The writing and reading are so heavy! BUT APHG isn’t given credit at a lot of colleges because there isn’t a standard class it replaces as easily. I had one kid get credit for Anthropology 301 at a school but many others receive no credit (other than generic credits).
