Interesting! DS starts middle school in 2 weeks, but they have to use their lockers since they can't have backpacks. We are also in Michigan, so they do wear coats and boots in the winter. But, I will be curious how it all ends up working vs. what we are being told. |

When you go to the back to school night for parents, you will be lost as well, especially if you have never walked in that school. So, you will understand what your kid went through on the first week of school. You kid will be fine.

Kid brought PE gym clothes just in case they were needed.
They werent, but kid autopilot went to bathroom between classes and changed out for PE anyway, and lost track of street clothes. |
| If your kid is bad in crowds, travelling between classes is terrible. |
There are lockers in the gym, which I believe the kids use to dump their stuff, if not change for PE. |
There’s more to life than sports. I’m glad your daughter found it. Mine love it |
Same. My daughter is loving her first week of 7th. She said the kids are really nice and she’s met a lot so far. She told me the stories she heard were exaggerated and she hasn’t seen anything scary, any fights or vaping. She has older siblings that said way too much. Let’s hope it stays that way for a little while. Kilmer in FCPS |
That's allowed? |
What... do you mean? |
The mean girls in our MA came from our ES, so it wasn’t a “MS thing” as much as they just got more emboldened in their meanness, and there is less oversight. |
Yes, hoodies are allowed in most every school. Yes, parents let their kids wear a hoodie instead of a winter coat. It doesn’t get dangerously cold here in the winter. If a kid chooses to be cold, that’s their choice. |

My kid appreciates the increased freedom and expanded lunch offerings, but isn’t loving the hallway crowding. He also said the 90 minute classes seem long.
Also, this PE uniform thing is a head scratcher. I never had them growing up and am curious as to their purpose. We had to change and had lockers, but brought our own athletic clothes. |
Principal at our school was clear that kids can wear hoodies, but cannot wear hoods up in hallways. |
Lol, welcome to MS. |
