Or, here's an idea, if your kids skip school, you punish them at home.

In my home, there are consequences if we are informed. Our high school was marking my child present though when he wasn’t - even when I was with him at a doctor’s appointment. Not sure why the assistant principal and principal didn’t seem to care enough to fix the record keeping problems when I sent emails.

Was your child skipping school?

I thought they weren’t able to make up work for an unexcused absence?

Chuckle! 🤣

That was a serious question. We are in middle school for the first time, with some high school credit classes now in the mix, and my presumption was we couldn't pull kids out of school for vacation because work could not be made up. If it can, then that's great for us and opens up possibilities.

Sounds like a big issue in your home. Maybe track your kids through their phones.

In my DD's elementary school they sent a survey recently about what the school can do to get the kids to attend more (My DD goes to a Title 1 school with a high mobility rate. I know a few kids in her class were gone for long periods of time). Did other schools get this?

We are at a non-Title I, non-focus ES and did not get that survey.

Kids don't show up means teachers get fired for data not being high enough to look good and keep crazy entitled parents at bay and vindictive admin off a teachers back.

Kids get sick. It’s normal. And you certainly should have understood and expected that long before you had kids.

Maybe you can find bubble boy's special suit.

Oh. You’re a child. Got it. DP

And this is one of the things teachers complain about.

It is very rarely enforced. Teachers are under great pressure to pass every child regardless of what happens.

What is your suggestion for this?

What are you hoping they do for this OP? If they close again or require masks again there will be riots. Not happening.

Why are kids gone for long periods of time? Is it illness or lack of transportation?

Not the PP, but kids are absent for long periods for lots of reasons. School refusal, sick parent/guardian not enforcing attendance, travel to another country to visit relatives or to renew visas.

I don't know what's going on. MCPSTV disabled the live stream for the press conference on their YouTube channel and they were supposed to go live with the press conference at 10:45 am.

The press are clearly there, but no news is coming out:
