Seriously. Give it a rest. |
Well Richmond is not an option. I guess my kid is going to have a horrible Quality of life in-state (VA) for the next 4 years. |
Sure, expectations play a minor role, but seeing that one school you're considering has a QoL rating of 90+ vs. another that's at around 80 makes you ask some questions. |
|
“Except that some of these schools may have more students with a far different comparative experiences--what pleases students at Kansas is in part what they are comparing it to“
I get your point, but I just want to assure the DMV folks that they have had running water & flush toilets in Kansas for at least a decade now. And in most counties they no longer have to climb up the telephone pole to make a call as was depicted on Green Acres. |

“*^list of happiest colleges“ Don’t bother. Somebody from Bethesda will just say that U of Oklahoma made the list because they now have color TV there. |
| The common thread is that the schools on that list have a low proportion of DCUM offspring attending, which is precisely why they have a high QoL. |
| DCUM makes it seem everyone hates Emory but then.... |
| I am a KSU alum. Kansas State is a smallish college (20,000) with lots of TLC from professors and staff, small class sizes - under 20 students total and professors who challenge their students to do their best but understand mental health issues. It's seriously a hidden gem for many young people in the Midwest. |
But does it really have a higher quality of life than KU? |
I would not call 20K students "Smallish" |
And also it is K-State and not Kansas (KU) |
|
“in Kansas” = STATE of Kansas (includes KSU & KU)
The point being that East Coasters sometimes wonder if states like Kansas have some pretty basic amenities. Flush toilets is obviously hyperbole, but 8 yrs ago my kid was heading to a flagship in a Great Plains state, & several people asked if they had cell phone service out there. |
If there is a "most boring poster"award, I would like to nominate you. |
