This would be my message, too. We are overwhelmed and we get very little time during the work day to actually get work done. I’m lucky if I get 30 minutes a day to respond to emails, look at data for all 140 students, plan lessons, grade papers, call parents, eat lunch, and go to the bathroom. |
I’m the one who posted about spec Ed. Not a taunt just the hard truth. And I’m not a failure at my job, I’m actually a really good spec Ed teacher and I advocate hard for the kids on my caseload. But these are the truths of the conditions in mcps and that’s what the thread asked about. Sometimes I wish parents knew so they didn’t believe the BS . That being said, parents should not be angry at the teachers - it’s the system and lack of appropriate resources |
DP, but the pp admitted to knowingly lying to parents of children with special needs so that they would "go away." And (apparently, since it's hard to tell with anonymous posts) when they were called out for it, fired back suggesting the parent was the psychopath. That's not right. I really do get that MCPS teachers are overworked, but that's still not OK. Parents can be allies in these situations- there's no good reason to lie to them. |
If you really wanted parents to know, why not tell them instead of lying to them to get them to “go away”? I don’t get it. That’s something that is absolutely in your power to do, and doesn’t even take a lot of effort. |
I’m a DP. If you’re on DCUM, then you should be very aware of the teacher shortage. It comes up in many threads. The remaining teachers are operating with few resources, no time, and very little support. This is especially true for special education teachers. They are continuing to function as best they can under dreadful conditions they did not cause. Instead of being combative, how about showing a little appreciation for the teachers who are doing their best to make miracles out of scraps. |
Another DP - A teacher lying to make parents "go away" is not doing their best to change an untenable system. They are covering up the system's failures. That does not deserve appreciation. Instead of trying to step in and pat the teachers on the head as they struggle, people should be armed with information from teachers to raise holy hell and fix the problems. |
I would like parents to take a breath when their kid tells them about something crazy that happened at school. Kids usually do not have the whole story. |
I really don’t see why that necessitates, or even justifies, lying to parents of children with special needs. If you truly don’t have time to do something, fine, say that. But don’t lie, claiming to do something that you know you won’t be able to do. I really don’t think that’s unreasonable, regardless of overcommitments. |
Exactly. I really don’t understand how anyone could defend the previous poster that admitted to lying. I knew those lies happened, but I find it deeply troubling that others would attempt to justify it. Anyone committing those lies, or knowingly allowing them to continue unchallenged, is part of the problem. |
I am curious how much autonomy teachers at different levels have in their classes — and whether this varies by principal. |
And get fired ? Or written up by my boss/ supervisor for telling you that? No way |
Guess what? The one hoping you “go away” is usually the admin or supervisor not the teacher . And they are the ones bossing the teacher into decisions |
I highly doubt you’re the pp, given we all know that’s not a realistic outcome. |
I would tell parents they are all sabotaging their kids education by sendjng them in with a cell phone. If you think it’s hard to tell your kid to turn off the tv at home, imagine what the is like for one teacher dealing with 30+ kid who are all walking around with a tv/ gaming/ entertainment device in their back pockets at all times, always at their finger tips….they are ALL addicted.
Teachers have no way to manage that, so what happens is they constantly tell kids to put phones away, and then they later give up because they get tired of saying the same thing 100x a class period. So stop please, just sending your kids to school with a phone. They don’t need it. And the argument that they need an iPhone to contact mom and dad is bonkers… there are devices that do the same without the tv, games, and social media: flip phones and dumb phone still exist. They don’t need an iPhone. They need an education |
Do you similarly apologize for police officers when they cover up shootings/unnecessary force for one another? |
