Annoying husband behavior

The only way this would solve the problem is if he doesn't actually know the dishes are clean. If her husband, like mine, DOES know they are clean, but simply doesn't care because unloading the dishwasher is way more work than he can bother to take on, it won't change a thing!

You hit the nail on the head.

not the guy's fault for sure.

This is how I imagine it happened. Feel free to add your thoughts or to change the scenario.

Perhaps in the morning, OP was rushed and only put away HALF of the clean dishes (after running the DW the night before). So, in the evening, after dinner, when DH was "trying" to be helpful in his limited way, he mistakenly thought that b/c the DW was half empty, the remaining dishes had to be dirty. So he began adding the dirty dinner plates to the DW, thereby contaminating the rest.

Close. The salient points are that only half the clean dishes were unloaded and he did know that the remaining ones were clean.
