Is sushi healthy

I'm Japanese and LOVE sushi. But you're not supposed to eat a ton, because the white rice ends up being a lot of refined carbs. It's low-fat, though! Pace yourself, savor each one, and you'll find yourself eating fewer.

That's not sushi.

It’s fish and rice. You’re a nut.

Take your blood sugar after eating the sugary rice. You’ll be horrified.

Your CGM might explode, no joke

I would not eat a lot of rolls or poke bowls if you are seeking to avoid carbs because of all the rice. If not avoiding it, totally fine.

There are a lot of risks with raw fish. I have gotten sick even from top notch places so I never get real raw fish sushi anymore. It just takes one clueless person working at the restaurant or one malfunctioning fridge to have it at the wrong temperature and risk bacteria, etc. White rice is not great, but some places offer quinoa, lettuce or brown rice instead.

Neither are edamame, salad, or miso soup. But all of them are things you can add to a sushi meal to make it more balanced.

A meal with a mix of sushi and other things can be a healthy choice.

I make sushi rice at home - you are literally talking about 1 tablespoon of sugar for 2 cups of rice. I'd hardly call that sugary rice.

dp.. the rice itself has sugar via carbs. I also make sushi rice at home. Normally, you would use a specific type of rise to make sushi, and that type of rice has more carbs in it than normal rice.

miso soup has a lot of salt.

My DD loves miso soup, and we make it home a lot, but it's got a high salt content. And sushi rice has a high carb content, more so than normal rice. You can make miso soup less salty but it doesn't taste right.

Np. Two cups of rice would make a lot of sushi. So you'd be getting, what, a teaspoon of sugar if you ate a couple rolls? Big deal.

A normal person would eat about 10 or so pieces of sushi, maybe more. Throw in the salt from the soy sauce, and you can bet sushi can be unhealthy.

I always feel bloated after I eat sushi.

I stopped eating raw meat and fish after I saw a lecture on parasites.

I used to eat a lot of sushi- I’m glad I didn’t get a parasite and I only eat cooked meat and fish now.
