Op, I sympathize. When I worked at a homeless shelter for victims of domestic violence we also struggled to find pro bono divorce lawyers.

If you're a DC resident, the city offers a mediation service that basically handles all the details. My ex and I used them and our counselor was terrific.

That just isn't true. But you have to meet pretty low income requirements.
