reading habits

I don’t know if you count this as reading, but I listen to audiobooks every time I can-working out, driving, shower, making dinner, weeding, dentist waiting room, during dental procedure even- it adds up! I go through at least two audiobooks per week and (at a slower pace) quite a few regular books in a year.

I read anywhere from 80-100 books a year, all in print/kindle, and I read a lot of classics, contemporary literature, and nonfiction.

I don't watch TV - at all. And I'm not that into scrolling the internet either. I probably spend an hour a day max scrolling, doing NYT games, etc.

One thing that really sped up my reading is always having two books going at once. As long as they are different (I usually do one fiction and one nonfiction or one light, modern fiction and one classic) it works really well for me. And then I always have something on the go that suits the mood I'm in.

I couldn’t find anything on TV and I realize I was snacking WAY too much at night. I can’t easily snack when reading, especially since I do library books.

I’ve read 18 books this summer alone. Mom to 3 little ones.

80-100 books a year. Sounds like it's time for you to start your own literary blog. My record is about 30 books, but that's probably because I'm more into watching TV series and old films.

I do love watching sports, so during football and basketball season, I might watch 1-2 games per week.

That's awesome how many books a week do you read?

It depends on how dense the writing is, of course. I can read about 50 pages per hour and most books I read are 350-450 pages. So I guess I’m reading 5-7 books per week?

Almost everything I read is borrowed through Libby.

Wow - that is really impressive!

I was a fast reader when I was young, and am now a very slow reader (plus distracted by TV and the internet, and life). I usually read one book every two weeks or so now. So - count me among those who are not tearing through the library anymore, if it makes you feel any better.

I post reviews on a LibraryThing thread and usually on Goodreads, but that's as far as I've gone. I also save all of my reviews in word docs (Since 2008!). I don't know why - I just love having the record and being able to go back and read my thoughts about a book when it comes up in conversation somewhere.

Apart from being someone who helps students with their assignments on https://essays.edubirdie.com/assignment-expert I have long realized that books are the most important source of knowledge. You can find a balance between reading and watching TV, but I will always choose the former.

This is a good result for someone who loves to read and understands the value of a book. Especially compared to the rubbish that TV offers us.

There was a thread at the end of last year where people talked about how many books they read and what their practices are. We have some 100-300 people around here!

I'm a fast reader. I typically read two books at a time, and trade off depending on my mood/what I want to read on any given night. Most of what I read is bestsellers - the types of books that I can read quickly without needing to really digest the text on a deep level. Occasionally I do read a classic, where I have to read more slowly to get everything in. I'm not speed-reading Brothers Karamazov or Middlemarch.

Interesting thread! Like many, I am not into tv and make it a habit to read every night before bed. I find that having good books helps or else I find myself in a lull and end up scrolling instead.

Sometimes I leave my phone in another room while I read.

I'm a fast reader, but at home I prioritize TV. I mainly read while travelling. Some of you are real inspirations with your reading! I also go through phases where sometimes I'll grab a bunch of books from the library (I like real books vs ebooks) and work my way through them. I think I will make that my august goal, read some books before summer ends!

I got this app “one sec” and it is literally life changing. It simply pauses the app when you open it and oh my gosh, it totally stopped my mindless clicking. It’s not expensive and really stopped my scrolling. My screen time is down 80% or so!

LibraryThing is my favorite - both for cataloging my books (if you're into that!) and the talk threads are full of intelligent, kind people that keep the discussion to books.
