Hidden cameras found in Silver Spring airbnb

I am sure they are looking for more than $75,000. I might be wrong, but I think when you file a complaint, you have to say whether you are seeking more than a threshold amount ($75,000). I think it has something to do with whether it’s a jury matter or not maybe?

The host could install cameras.

Or a guest could install cameras.

Risk for hosts as well as guests.

I know several people who have had items stolen from them during stays at airbnbs. (Think: laptops and jewelry.)

Host blames burglars, but you never know.

Why anyone would stay in a hotel is beyond me.

The hotel staff could install cameras.

Or a guest could install cameras.

Risk for hotel as well as guests.

Hotel management blames burglars, but you never know.

SPOTTED: the airbnb owner!!!!!

You are not very convincing! This happens way less in hotels than airbnbs!

I never understood why people stay at Airbnbs plenty of hotels have kitchens now.

Sooo creepy. So many nuts out there. I have no interest in staying in a strangers home and paying them to spy on me.

Airbnb is done.

It was a good idea for a hot minute, but it's clear you can't trust airbnb owners. And you can't trust guests either. Not all the cameras are there for creeps.

The idea doesn't work. People expect privacy - rightfully. And property owners don't want their places trashed. And some airbnb owners will be vile and predatory. And some guests will be destructive.

The airbnb concept doesn't work in the real world.

You have to assume that everything you do in an airbnb is being recorded.

Where is it going?

Creepy. We have used AirBNB a lot and now I’m thinking we will use a hotel for an upcoming trip.

Is this a surprise to anyone?

Personally, I’m a MoCo resident who thinks large swaths of Silver Spring are sketchy.

If that's how you feel, what options do you have? Where do stay when you travel?

"While MCPD was present at the Property, another individual walked up the
driveway of the Property and explained he was staying in the basement via another Airbnb rental.

MCPD then found another hidden camera smoke detector in the basement where this renter was
staying."

ON THE SAME BLOCK!!!

Is that house owned by the same person? Or is the name of the street Perv St.?

NP. I think it's the same house. The complaint says they were renting individual rooms, including the basement.

What I don’t understand is why someone would drive 23 hours from Dallas to DC to stay 2 nights in a shared house? With a shared bathroom?

Nice hotels.

Hotels have a reputation to protect. And if there’s ever an issue, you can file a lawsuit against a hotel. The same isn’t true with Airbnb.

I mean, would you ever rent out your own home? Don’t you wonder why anyone would?

I can't believe people still stay in AirBNBs after all the awful stuff that continues to come out.

A guest can create a fake profile on Airbnb using a prepaid debit card and set up cameras very easily.
