| You dump it and never ever buy an American car again. That was your first mistake. I feel like this is very predicable with a Chevy. |
I wouldn’t consider a 2020 used Malibu nearly new. It’s almost 4 years old. |
|
A Chevy Malibu is a very reliable basic car that is easy to fix.
There are no engine or brake recalls on that model year. From description I don’t think poster has a clue about cars. Chevys parts are cheap and plentiful. The junkyard is full of totaled Malibu’s for parts. We need more info |
| Did OP try to engine brake with a malibu? Generally that's a terrible idea |

They’ve set the engine to stop some part of the brake pump thing if the engine malfunctions. Problem is what would just be a blown engine actually cause sudden breaking loss while in drive . |
It is not only at the initial stages of class action there is a service bulletin out on the issue. |
| You bought a chevy I'm not sure what you expected op. |
|
I love my Chevy.
Obviously, you're not people who ever loved Corvettes or Camaros or Z28s, like your average American. |
So what. My 2012 GM has a power reduction mode click in if engine misfire or overheating and I lose certain functions and car speed great reduced. It resets in own. Sell the car. I would have blown engine twice without it. |
|
OP, is the dealership that is helping you contact Chevrolet the one who sold you the car? If so, ask them to offer you a trade-in deal for the car based on the fact that they sold you such a bad vehicle.
If you bought it independently and then took it to the dealership to repair, this isn't an option. But it might be worth it to look for one of those companies that are advertising that they will buy damaged and non-working cars. Try to get as much as possible to cover your loan, then try to buy another used car, this time from a dealership that does used car certifications. |
| I'm guessing it was once a rental car. |
| My old ad agency had a similar Malibu that was used for deliveries and transport. It was rear ended with 185k on the odometer. |
I had a S-10 Blazer that went to 300k!, a Cavalier that went into the 200k's, and an HHR that is still going strong at 260K. And now a Volt with zero issues at 75K. OP, is perhaps the dealer the problem? If there is a service bulletin, it should be something they could have fixed. |

If it is out of warranty and out of lemon law statute is it really a “lemon?”
It sounds like it’s four years old and/or high mileage? |
