| Apparently groping and pickpockets are normal in Italy. Be warned, tourists. It’s just their “culture.” |
Yep. I'd be like "okay, punching in response to groping is also legal if it's for 10 seconds or less." |
I think we all know the answer to that. |
| Ten seconds is actually a long time, if something you don't want is being done to you. |
|
I thought catcalling in the US was terrible, but Italy was in a whole other league.
Everywhere we traveled I was constantly harassed by men (not just Italian). |
Ten seconds is a very long time for a groping. Many people, including victims and judges, have a terrible sense of time and don't really know how long ten seconds is on a clock. |
Are you in the DMV? It's not terrible here. |
Not just the older generations. The younger male generations have learned this behavior and do it as well. When my relatives visit from Florence, I constantly remind my male cousins that catcalling women here may get the sh!t slapped out of them b/c American women are not submissive and demure like many Italian. They say things like "it is a compliment for me to think a woman is beautiful and worth enough of my attention!" |
That's what I thought. |
I agree. I feel like the catcalling here is pretty limited to the occasional construction site. It's worse in some other places (NYC looking at you). |
They will learn the hard way here if they don't listen to you.
|
Yeah, that was my reaction to being grabbed in Italy. I spun around ready to slap the snot out of the guy....who turned out to be a policeman. WTF. |
Catcalling is not a "US" thing. Have you never left North America? |
It's called the "Trump effect". |
