| The online health classes are a joke over the summer so my kid is glad to knock them out. Mostly busy work. Her class is at 9am and only needs to be on zoom a couple days a week. Check the language requirements for the schools she is interested in. Chances are it’s 2-3 years unless top 10 |
There are some benefits to taking PE later in high school. When students are taking a whole bunch of AP’s junior and senior year, Yoga PE (or whatever) can be a nice break. It’s fine to take it earlier, but since PE is offered almost every period, it’s not the worst to postpone. |
| Back to the original question: Is it more important to have four years of band or Spanish? |
| If they intend to apply to a select school, they will need 4 years of foreign language in HS. |
| Definitely take health insurance school!! |
| UMDCP requires 2 years of foreign language. |
| If you have to choose, prioritize the foreign language. Schools like UVA strongly prefers 4 years if foreign language, so your DD could be limiting her choices by only doing 3. |
| OP ask the school if they will accept the online Health via BYU. My kid did that and they give you 12 months to complete each half a year (totally excessive amount of time) its entirely online and no live sessions. Costs about $200 |
You start with one AP freshman year. |
| OP choose language. Band is just a fluffy EC whereas language at least used to be considered an academic subject. |
| semi-useless skill vs. totally useless skill. Choice is clear |
|
If she has time during the school year, I read health is supposed to be offered online during the 2023-24 school year.
I know an extra class can be a lot during the school year. I imagine so many in the class of 2025 are scrambling to figure out a good way to finish health A & B. |
Wow — denigrating language and music. Let me guess: you’re one of these people who thinks the only worthwhile career path is in STEM. |
| I don't understand how a school has a schedule that leads you to have to make this choice? How many periods classes can they take per semester? |
|
I would choose language.
Band is an extra curricular activity, and you can continue an instrument outside of a regular class day. Lots of options for that. In fact you could start a band club and be the President of it! |
