is today's air quality better to send kid to outdoor camp?

Airnow.gov will give you the air quality reading by zip.

Airnow predicts 145 for us today. Right now is 153. I was just out for a 20 min walk and could feel it in my lungs. I’m keeping my kid home from her half-day sport camp, because Im guessing that 8 points isn’t that much of an improvement.

Asthma is sad. Clowns are scary...

Sadly, we may be dealing with this all summer. I would start as you mean to go on.

This is so individual to the family and the kid, but if you keep your kid home every day the air quality is bad, you could be looking at lot of days. So it's a cost-benefit of health risk versus additional stress for you, screen time and missing out on activities for your kid.

Are people encouraging their kids to mask outdoors in code red? Do masks even help with the smoke particles? We're going to have days like this and possibly worse through October.

Yes, N95 masks are supposed to help with the smoke particles. I would tell my kid to mask if he was spending time outdoors in this weather, but he has allergies and asthma.

Supposedly it’s like smoking half a pack a day. No thanks.

I didn’t suggest it, but my kid and his friends all wore masks yesterday when out & about.
