Summer geometry week 1 day 2

OP. Just go ahead and finish it this summer. A B+ is not bad. Better to start and focus on Algebra etc

And then again top 25 schools admit students with advanced placement math? So looks like in either case DC’s chances are dim to apply top tier schools.

Tops 25 is a lottery anyway. And to throw my own anecdote in the ring, my 2021 grad got accepted to a T25, with (standard!) Geometry in 9th and AP Stats instead of Calc AB senior year.

My younger kid did much worse than a B+ in Geometry as a freshman and I'm ok with that...she's not gunning for T25, and showed major upward trend sophomore year. She'll be just fine and OPs kid will, too. According to the Department of Education, there are about 4000 colleges in the US alone, and US News (if you're so inclined) ranks almost 1500 schools. There are plenty of places to get an excellent education outside of the mythical T25, T50 or even T100.

I’d drop the class - 9th grade geometry is fine

A B+ in geometry followed by five As in algebra 2, precalculus, calculus, calc 3 and linear algebra is better than an A in geometry followed by three As in algebra 2, precalculus, and calculus

Even at TJ - reaching upto calculus in Senior year is sufficient.

OP’s kid should focus on getting till there and breadth of courses. Not Linear Algebra..

My another question is can DC take another class from NVCC or George Mason other than 7 classes DC would be taking?

Colleges want students who can do the research themselves and don't order their mommy around like a servant.

He did challenge himself everywhere else he could and had good grades and SATs. My son and daughter weren’t quite the superstars that he was but they also took geometry in 9th and have been successful. You’re putting way too much pressure on your child to be on an advanced path.

This. 💯 this.

They're the same. One isn't better than the other.

What difference does it make whether it's Indian parent?

But no, OP cant be an indian parent. all indian kids complete Hons Geometry by 8th grade. There are prep classes for that ( jk!)

It's 6 classes vs 4, so it depends on how those other 2 spots are used.

It’s more of a curiosity. I know so many Indian families that make their kids take Geometry in the summer so they can take Algebra 2 in 8th and look good for TJ. Sad but true. Otherwise there is no other reason to take Geometry in the summer after 7th grade.
